Be prepared to let your first burn be at least 3 hours. You need your candle to form full wax pool (wax all the way around the container and about 1/4" deep) during the initial burn. If do not burn the candle long enough to achieve the full wax pull, your candle will tunnel. Wax, especially soy wax, has muscle memory and it's going to burn in the same pattern every time. Investing the time to achieve that full wax pool will help your candle burn all the way down without that annoying tunneling we all hate.
The candles you purchase here at Xoan may not have a perfectly smooth top after your first burn. That's okay. A lot of purists have come to view the imperfections in soy candles as a sign of purity. It is not a product flaw and will not affect the scent or performance of your candle in any way.
A smoking candle is a sign of an improper burn. Smoking usually occurs when a candle wick has not been properly trimmed. For the most effective burn, be sure to trim your wick properly before lighting.
A dancing flaming is often due to a wick that is too long OR a candle that is placed in a drafty area. Candles the happiest when the wicks are trimmed appropriately before lighting and when they are placed in draft-free areas of our homes.
Burning a candle with a long wick or in a drafty area can also cause issues with candles smoking.
The initial burn of your candle needs to be approximately 3 hours to form a melt pool that is edge to edge and about 1/4" deep. We recommend that subsequent burning can vary in duration, but always needs to burn long enough to produce a full melt pool.
**We do NOT recommend burning your candles for more than 4 hours at at time. If you insist on burning your candles continuously, be sure you are extinguishing the flame every 3-4 hours and trimming your wick for the safest burning.**
Our wax melts tend to last 15+ hours per cube (with some customers reporting 3+ days out of just one cube). We recommend starting with one cube to be sure you don't have overpowering scents in your home.
